Recreation
Greenwood’s mild climate and seasonal weather allow the outdoorsman many avenues for recreation. Located within a 30-45 minute drive of five different lakes, the area known as the “Lakelands” region has gained popularity with competitive and recreational fishing and also offers a large number of campgrounds and parks. Lake Greenwood offers largemouth bass and crappie fishing and has become a popular destination for boaters as well. League and tournament tennis, with the exception of the winter months, is ongoing and offers play on different levels through the USTA League. Hiking and biking trails are also popular in the Greenwood region.
Lake Greenwood
Featuring over 212 miles of shoreline and 11,000 acres of water, you are sure to find peace and solitude at Lake Greenwood. Bordering Greenwood, Laurens, and Newberry Counties, the lake offers recreational boating, fishing, camping, and more at a slow pace, embracing true Southern hospitality with kind neighbors and friendly waves along the water. In addition, Lake Greenwood is owned and controlled by Greenwood County and serves as an uninterrupted source of water for the citizens of Greenwood County. Connect Lake Greenwood is a nonprofit organization created by the chambers of commerce in Greenwood, Laurens, Newberry, and Ninety Six. This organization works collaboratively to promote Lake Greenwood’s businesses and communities by sharing information, supporting and hosting events, and maximizing resources to the benefit of the entire region.
Parks and Recreation
Both the City and County of Greenwood recognize and appreciate the value that parks and recreation add to quality of life. To that end, collaboration between Greenwood County Parks and Recreation and Greater Greenwood Parks and Trails Foundation helps to enhance green space throughout Greenwood. The City of Greenwood is home to Magnolia Park, Heritage Trail, Greenwood City Garden, West Cambridge Park, and Grace Street Dog Park. Greenwood Family YMCA
The Greenwood Family YMCA is a diverse organization of men, women, and children joined together by a shared commitment to strengthen community youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility in Greenwood, SC. The Y strives to incorporate all its programs with the core values of honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility. Founded in 1950, the Greenwood Family YMCA has over 7500 members and serves Greenwood County.
Golf Courses
With seven different golf courses in the county, Greenwood has enjoyed a long history of serving as a destination for local and regional golf events, including the SC Open Championship, college championships, and other conferences and tournaments. The road to the LPGA comes through Greenwood in May and showcases LPGA legends, and current Solheim Cup players.
